Dear Requester:
We reviewed your request for the following:
“Any logs and calls, including to those pertaining to physical visits by the LAPD, to the address 13368 Beach Ave., Los Angeles, CA, 90292, beginning on date 01/01/17 and ending on 01/14/2020.”
Your request was made under the California Public Records Act (the Act).
The Department is cognizant of its responsibilities under the Act. It recognizes the statutory scheme was enacted to maximize citizen access to the workings of government. The Act does not mandate disclosure of all documents within the government’s possession. Rather, by specific exemption and reference to other statutes, the Act recognizes that there are boundaries where the public’s right to access must be balanced against such weighty considerations as the right of privacy, a right of constitutional dimension under California Constitution, Article 1, Section 1. The law also exempts from disclosure records that are privileged or confidential or otherwise exempt under either express provisions of the Act or pursuant to applicable federal or state law, per California Government Code Sections 6254(b); 6254(c); 6254(f); 6254(k); and 6255.
A printout of patrol Calls for Service to the above location has been shared with you. Portions of this report have been withheld for privacy and confidentiality reasons. Please note the time period indicated on the top of the printout. A three-page handout is also attached which will assist you in interpreting the Calls for Service. Calls for Service printouts do not contain information regarding the person who called the police, the name of the person who was the subject of the call, or the telephone number from which the call was made. Calls for Service are specific to an address and will generally not specify an apartment or unit number in a multiple-unit apartment complex, duplex or office building. The printout provided to you does not include certified copies of any crime or arrest reports related to a patrol response. Release of these reports, or any information contained therein, is subject to the provisions of the California Government Code, Section 6254, otherwise known as the California Public Records Act.
If you have any questions, please respond to this email.
Respectfully,
LAPD Discovery Section, CPRA Unit
